Lemvig lies on the Limfjord, near the North Sea in northwest Jutland. The municipality of Lemvig covers 465 sq km, making it one of Denmark's largest. 7,500 of the municipality's 19,600 inhabitants live in Lemvig proper. The countryside surrounding Lemvig is spectacular, with a peculiar character of its own. The undulating landscape in the north shelters from the west wind, while the flatter, somewhat bleak, southern part stretches toward the always spectacular North Sea coast.
